National Nursing Student Week

NNSW Logo

November 13th-19th, 2011

National Nursing Student Week is an opportunity to recognize the outstanding work both during school and outside of school done by nursing students across Canada and to promote specifically the role of a nursing student and the nursing profession as a whole.

National Nursing Student Week

Why do we celebrate NNSW?

  • To bring awareness to the public regarding the role of nursing students.
  • To honour students who go above and beyond the call of duty.
  • To bring Nursing Students from across Canada together to share ideas, special moments and outstanding achievements.

What you can do to celebrate:

  • Put up posters around your school, clinical areas, hospital cafeterias, post offices, etc
  • Sign the NNSW banner at your school showing off nursing students
  • Videotape nursing students talking about why they went into nursing, what nurses do and what nursing means to them, and have faculty advisors talk about the achievements and future plans/goals for the direction of nursing and nursing students. Include comments from other faculty members, the university, students' union, etc - the goal is to show how many people value nursing students, and be able to share it with incoming and outgoing nursing students! (These videos can be sent to informatics@cnsa.ca and if approved by the board of directors will be posted on our new YouTube Channel
  • If video's not your thing, create a scrap book talking about nursing students!
  • Distribute comment cards to faculty, hospital staff/patients (large scale project) and collect positive words about nursing students, then display these cards on campus, read them out at an event, publish in newsletter, add them into the scrap book as previously discussed, etc
  • Speak with your professional nursing union, college, and association regarding having a meet and greet for students with their board members and members at large
  • Talk to your student union for opportunities to promote nursing student events within your campus community. (Nursing students are so isolated from other undergrads; they should know how awesome we are!)
  • Have a National Nursing Student Week booth at your school, hospital, etc. promoting CNSA, NNSW and National Conference
  • Create a small award ceremony during a lunch hour that honour nursing students at your school who have gone above and beyond in the clinical area, community or school. We encourage individual schools to request funding from their faculties and community organizations to assist in doing something special for the students or for others in the name of nursing students (i.e. a pizza party for all years and all nursing programs, etc)
  • Get your faculty and community involved by asking them to offer discounts to nursing students during National Nursing Student Week! (example letter in Information Package)
