The Outpost - International Placement Award

The award recognizes students who seek a nursing experience in a different cultural setting. Such alternative experiences often have a profound impact on the participant and their future nursing practice, yet the financial considerations can be a difficult obstacle to overcome. The CNSA/AEIC recognizes the importance of such experiences a wishes to encourage and support students to achieve such goals.

Terms of the Award

1. The award is available to nursing students registered in a nursing school with current membership in the Canadian Nursing Students' Association.

2. The applicant must be going on an outpost placement planned to start within 9 months of the application or have completed a outpost placement within the past 6 months.

3. The applicant must not have received full funding for the placement from other means.

4. The candidate must successfully complete the previous academic year in which the application is made.

5. Current members of the CNSA Board of Directors are not eligible for the award in their year of office.

6. The applicant must provide a report/article to CNSA in a form suitable for publication in the Connection or other such publication.

Application

A completed application shall be considered to contain:

1. Name of person applying

2. Current Address, and telephone number of applicant

3. Permanent Address and telephone number of applicant (if different from current)

4. Which member school they attend

5. The answers to the following questions, total answers not to exceed 500 words:

a. What are your specific goals/objectives for your placement?
b. What is your plan to achieve these goals?
c. What do you hope to personally achieve through this experience?
d. What benefit will your outpost/international placement experience have on other people?
e. What is the total expected cost of your placement and what additional funding have you already received, or have been approved for?

6. The applicant must provide one letters of reference.

7. The applicant must provide verification of placement (may be included in letter of reference)

8. The applicant must submit an official transcript of his or her marks to date with the application.

9. The following statement signed and dated "I [name] agree to the terms of the outpost/international placement award, and understand that I am obligated to provide a report/article to CNSA in a form suitable for publication in the Connection or other such publication upon my return from my placement. I further believe all statements in my application to be truthful."

Award Application Deadline and Instructions:

Completed applications and supporting documents for this award must be received by 10th of the November preceding the National Conference by the current VP/ERD. No applications received after this date, or incomplete applications will be considered.
