I am a Bachelor of Science in Nursing student at Dalhousie University, actively involved in both academic and student leadership spaces. Throughout my program, I have balanced rigorous coursework with varsity athletics and community involvement, which has strengthened my time management, resilience, and ability to lead under pressure. My leadership approach is grounded in collaboration, transparency, and advocacy. I believe effective leaders create space for others to be heard while guiding teams toward shared goals. I prioritize open communication and strive to represent diverse perspectives while using the lens of my Indigenous identity, ensuring that decisions reflect the needs of the broader student body. I have developed strong interpersonal and organizational skills through my academic training and extracurricular involvement, including mentoring peers and supporting student initiatives. As someone engaged with the Indigenous Student Centre, I also bring a perspective rooted in equity, inclusion, and culturally safe leadership—values that are essential in nursing and student governance. I am interested in this role because it provides an opportunity to advocate for nursing students on a larger scale, strengthen connections across schools, and contribute to meaningful initiatives that impact student experiences. I am motivated to help build a more connected, supported, and empowered nursing community while continuing to grow as a leader.

To ensure consistent communication and strong participation, I would prioritize building structured yet accessible channels for engagement. This includes regular check-ins with chapter representatives, clear monthly updates, and the use of shared platforms to centralize information and resources. I would focus on creating a sense of community across schools by encouraging collaboration rather than isolated participation. This could involve inter-school initiatives, open forums, and opportunities for chapters to share successes and challenges. Recognizing and highlighting chapter contributions would also help maintain motivation and visibility. Additionally, I would ensure communication is timely, concise, and actionable, reducing barriers to engagement. By being approachable and responsive, I aim to build trust so chapter leaders feel supported and confident reaching out. Ultimately, my goal is to create an environment where all schools feel connected, informed, and empowered to actively participate in CNSA initiatives.

Building strong relationships with professional organizations, unions, and student groups requires consistency, professionalism, and mutual value. I would begin by establishing clear points of contact and maintaining regular communication to ensure alignment on goals and opportunities for collaboration. I believe relationships are strongest when they are reciprocal. I would actively seek ways CNSA can support these organizations while also identifying opportunities for students, such as networking events, educational sessions, and advocacy initiatives. Maintaining these relationships involves reliability and follow-through. Attending meetings, providing updates, and ensuring commitments are met helps build trust and credibility over time. I would also prioritize representing student voices accurately and respectfully in all interactions. By fostering open communication and shared purpose, I aim to create sustainable partnerships that benefit both nursing students and the broader professional community.

Balancing academic commitments with leadership responsibilities requires intentional organization and discipline. I rely on structured planning systems, including digital calendars, task management tools, and setting clear deadlines to stay on track. I prioritize tasks based on urgency and impact, ensuring that both academic and leadership responsibilities are managed effectively. Breaking larger responsibilities into smaller, manageable steps allows me to stay consistent and avoid becoming overwhelmed. Accountability is also important to me. I set personal benchmarks, regularly review my progress, and communicate proactively if challenges arise. My experience balancing nursing coursework with athletics has strengthened my ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining high performance. I also recognize the importance of self-care and maintaining balance to prevent burnout. By staying organized, proactive, and adaptable, I am confident in my ability to meet the demands of this role while continuing to succeed academically.
